I’ve spent hundreds of hours working the register at Trader Joes. When someone buys a lot of healthy items (somehow managing to escape the intoxicating deliciousness of their candy, chocolates, and bakery items), I comment. “You’re a healthy eater, yes?” or “I see you got a lot of healthy foods today.”
“I’m trying,” mostly everyone says.
In my head, I think of the famous Yoda saying, “Do or do not. There is no try.”
If you are buying healthy things, scheduling exercise, and planning for better sleep, you are not TRYING. You are DOING. Give yourself credit. Celebrate your effort. Celebrate your small steps.
Instead of “I’m trying,”
- SAY “I’m doing it.”
- SAY “I’m taking care of myself.”
- SAY “I’m all in.”
- SAY “I’m focused.”
- SAY “I’m ready.”
Say “I’m trying” out loud.
Now say “I’m doing it. I’m all in. I’m ready. I’m taking care of myself. I’m focused.”
Can you feel the difference?
Your feeling state is your navigation system. How you feel RIGHT NOW points you to where you’re going. If you feel ambivalent, you won’t get a noticeable outcome. If you feel focused and enthusiastic and certain, you’ll get results you can see. And you’ll amplify those positive feelings of alignment.
Go for it!
